More than 800 million people are struggling to live on less than US$3 per day, while many others spend much more than that on items for which they have no real need, and at the same time doing nothing to save or improve the lives of those in extreme poverty. In this lecture I argue that this is a serious ethical failure. Those with more have a responsibility to do more to save and improve the lives of those with much less. But how much more? In this lecture I will discuss that question, and will argue that it is not only individuals, but also companies, that should be contributing to reducing extreme poverty.
